The recipient of this award is a real pioneer: someone who has spent the last four decades perpetuating the industry’s evolution.
This special individual was at the forefront of an emerging housewares market, being one of the first to spot the potential of offering gift-able, design-led kitchenware to a growing band of cosmopolitan “foodies” that wanted good looking and functional products for their kitchens and tables.
From humble beginnings as a rep, tonight’s winner then went on to up their commitment to the sector, by launching a new company that would go on to become one of the best brand names in the trade, run very much on ethical and environmental grounds.
While a true believer in fostering a diverse retail base, tonight’s winner is a real champion of independent cookshops, proud to supply them with both original designs and functional ‘must haves’ with lifetime guarantees.
Thanks to this person’s forward thinking, one sector of the UK housewares market was revolutionised by the launch of a new mill mechanism, which has set a standard at both retail and consumer levels.
Although managing director, he is never one to blow his own trumpet, preferring to fanfare his team’s achievements. Despite recently celebrating a significant birthday, he continues to be very ‘hands-on’ in his business, ever ready to embrace change.
On top of all this, he is a seriously lovely bloke, who is rarely seen without his trademark smile, which I sincerely hope we’re going to see in full beaming mode. I would now like to hand over to Richard Plant to announce the recipient of this year’s Honorary Achievement Award – T&G’s Patrick Gardner!
